On 20 December 2022, the Swedish Supreme Administrative Court decided not to grant an appeal in the Google v Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection's (IMY) case concerning Google's practices in complying with the right to be forgotten under the GDPR, giving effect to the judgment issued on 30 November 2021 by the Gothenburg Court of Appeal, which ordered Google to pay a fine of SEK 50 million. The Court of Appeal found that Google's practice of informing webmasters about the removal of a URL containing personal information in compliance with the right to be forgotten was not in compliance with the GDPR, confirming the judgment of a lower court and the findings of IMY's initial investigation.
