On 25 November 2022, the European Commission introduced a draft Regulation on the transparency and targeting of political advertising. The Regulation would apply to political advertisements, including ads concerning issues that might influence a political consultation's outcome. The Regulation introduces transparency labels, strict conditions for targeting and amplification, as well as fines for breaches of the terms outlined in the Regulation. Furthermore, the proposed Regulation outlines specific requirements for entities that use targeting or amplification techniques based on users' personal data.
