On 5 December 2022, amendments to the Online Safety Bill were made before the UK Parliament. The amended Bill replaces the "legal but harmful" approach to online safety with the so-called "triple shield", which requires service providers to remove illegal content and content that violates terms of service, and provide adult users with wider control over the content that is shown. Notably, the amended Bill removes the "harmful communications offence" that was included in the previous version of the Bill.
