On 5 December 2022, the United States and the European Union, following the third ministerial meeting of the Trade and Technology Council (TTC), agreed to cooperate in the development of new technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and quantum information science and technology. Regarding AI, the TTC adopted a “Joint Roadmap on Evaluation and Measurement Tools for Trustworthy AI and Risk Management”, which aims to guide the development of tools, methodologies, and approaches to AI risk management and trustworthy AI. The TTC also announced a pilot project to assess the use of privacy-enhancing technologies and synthetic data in the health sector. Furthermore, the TTC announced it had finalized a joint report on the impact of AI on the future of workforces in the EU and the US. The TTC agreed to explore collaboration on research projects in AI and computing to address challenges in areas such as electric grid optimization and emergency response management. Finally, regarding quantum information science and technology, the TTC agreed to advance international standards and develop common frameworks to assess technology readiness, aspects of intellectual property and export control-related issues.
