On 5 April 2024, the United States and the European Union, following the sixth ministerial meeting of the TTC (Transatlantic Technology and Trade Council), issued a joint statement including a commitment to a risk-based approach to artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure its safe, secure, and trustworthy development. The parties emphasised their bilateral and joint participation in international organisations such as G7, OECD, and UN processes. The parties endorsed the Hiroshima Process International Code of Conduct for AI developers and plan to establish a Dialogue for deeper collaboration. Furthermore, the parties noted that the European AI Office and the United States AI Safety Institute exchanged information on their regulatory approaches and agreed to establish a dialogue to expand their collaboration further. The parties will focus on implementing the Joint Roadmap on Evaluation and Measurement Tools for Trustworthy AI and Risk Management, aiming to establish interoperable international standards.
