Opened CCI investigation into Google's alleged abuse of dominance regarding the Android Mobile Operating System

On 16 April 2019, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) opened an investigation concerning the alleged anti-competitive conduct of Google in abusing its dominant market position in mobile operating systems related markets. Specifically, the affected markets cover mobile operating systems, mobile app stores, online video hosting platforms, and web search services. Google has been accused of requiring mobile device manufacturers to pre-install Google's applications, tying certain Google products to other Google products, and reducing the ability of device manufacturers to develop modified or alternate versions of the Android Mobile Operating System (OS). The informants that filed the case with the CCI partially relied on the European Commission’s decision in 2018 penalising Google for anti-competitive practices in the Android OS.
