On 1 October 2022, the Electronic Communications (Security Measures) Regulations 2022 previously adopted by the UK Government Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sports (DCMS) have been implemented. The Regulations, developed in collaboration with the National Cyber Security Centre and industry regulator Ofcom, apply to providers of public electronic communications networks and services (telecom providers). These providers must adhere to specific security measures designed to ensure that providers have appropriate security measures in place in addition to existing ones. Specifically, providers are required to take technical and design measures to protect data and minimise the risk of security compromises occurring.
