Description

Adopted Electronic Communications (Security Measures) Regulations 2022

On 1 September 2022, the UK Government Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sports (DCMS) adopted the Electronic Communications (Security Measures) Regulations 2022. The Regulations, developed in collaboration with the National Cyber Security Centre and industry regulator Ofcom, apply to providers of public electronic communications networks and services (telecom providers). These providers must adhere to specific security measures designed to ensure that providers have appropriate security measures in place in addition to existing ones. Specifically, providers are required to take technical and design measures to protect data and minimise the risk of security compromises occurring. Unless vetoed by Parliament the new regulations will come into force on 1 October 2022.
