Description

Amended SB-746 on online advocacy to regulate political activities and online advertisements

On 11 August 2022, SB-746 was amended in the California State Assembly to regulate political activities and online advertisements. The amended Bill would require online platforms to submit annual reports to the Secretary of State if they altered the search results in order to prioritize political advertisements or political advocacy posts. The previous version of the Bill would have made the activities of companies which intentionally disseminate communications or information for political purposes subject to the existing rules and restrictions on campaign contributions and expenditure.
