On 10 May 2022, the SB-746 on disclosure of the use of personal information for political purposes was amended in the California State Assembly. The amended Bill would make the activities of companies which intentionally disseminate communications or information for political purposes subject to the existing rules and restrictions on campaign contributions and expenditures. The previous versions of the Bill would have expanded on the consumer rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 to require businesses to disclose whether users' personal information had been used for political purposes.
