Social Media (Anti-Trolling) Act 2022 containing local operation requirements rejected

On 11 April 2022, the Social Media (Anti-Trolling) Bill 2022 lapsed due to the dissolution of the Australian Parliament. The Bill would have required any foreign social media provider with more than 250'000 local users to have legal representation in Australia and provide contact details of users posting defamatory content in defamation cases.
