Announced Consumer Protection Cooperation Network letter to Whatsapp to request information on commercial policies

On 27 January 2022, the Consumer Protection Cooperation Network, which is composed of the EU national consumer protection authorities, sent a letter to WhatsApp to request clarifications about its commercial policies. More precisely, Whatsapp is requested to explain how it ensures that consumers can understand its terms of service and how it uses consumers’ personal data for commercial purposes, including sharing data with other Meta companies and third parties. Whatsapp has to provide such information before the end of February.
