On 6 July 2022, Russia's State Duma passed an Amendment to Law No. 152-FZ on Personal Data, the Bill on Strengthening the Protection of Personal Data of Russians, which introduces additional data protection regulations. Specifically, personal data operators will not be able to deny services to citizens for refusing to provide personal data, especially biometric data. Further, the applicable deadline for operators to comply with requests from both regulators and citizens on the potentially illegal use of personal data has been reduced from 30 to 10 days. Finally, the Bill would prohibit the processing of biometric personal data of minors, defined as individuals under 18 years old.
