Announced Referendum on the Amendment to the Federal Act on Film Production and Film Culture

On 16 February 2022, the Swiss Government announced that it will hold a referendum on 15 May 2022 on the Amendment to the Federal Act on Film Production and Film Culture. The Swiss electorate will determine if the Amendments will be implemented. The Amendment to the Federal Act on Film Production and Film Culture would require companies to increase the investment in local content obligation from 1% to 4%. Moreover, if streaming providers do not want to invest 4% of their Switzerland-based income into local content, then they can alternatively, pay the same amount as a levy to the Federal Office of Culture.
