European Union: European Commission extended investigation into X regarding recommender systems risk management under Digital Services Act

Description

European Commission extended investigation into X regarding recommender systems risk management under Digital Services Act

On 26 January 2026, the European Commission extended its existing investigation into X to further evaluate the platform's compliance with risk management obligations for recommender systems under the Digital Services Act (DSA). The original investigation, initiated in December 2023, is being broadened to address ongoing concerns regarding the platform's systemic risk mitigation strategies. As a designated very large online platform (VLOP), X is required to manage the potential negative impacts of its algorithmic systems on users. The Commission will continue to collect evidence through information requests and interviews to determine if the service adheres to the established regulatory framework.
