On 10 January 2026, Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs issued an order temporarily suspending access to the Grok application to address risks of AI-generated pornographic content. The authority stated its position on the practice of non-consensual sexual deepfakes as a serious violation of human rights, dignity, and the security of citizens in the digital space. The Ministry also required Platform X to provide clarification regarding the negative impacts of using Grok. The order is based on Ministerial Regulation No. 5 of 2020 on Private Electronic System Operators, particularly Article 9, which requires providers to ensure their systems do not contain, facilitate, or disseminate prohibited electronic information or documents.
