European Union: Announced new signatories of the Code of Practice on disinformation including algorithm disclosure requirements

Description

Announced new signatories of the Code of Practice on disinformation including algorithm disclosure requirements

During the signatories' Assembly meeting on 30 September 2021, eight more potential signatories entered the revision process of the European Code of Practice against Disinformation. The voluntary code lays forth obligations by platforms and businesses to combat misinformation and is based on the Commission's Guidance from May 2021, which outlines how the present Code might be reinforced through including algorithm disclosure requirements for social media providers. Organisations that provide disinformation-fighting solutions such as Globsec, Logically, NewsGuard, and WhoTargetsMe are among the potential new signatories, as well as online video platform Vimeo, the new social network Clubhouse and advertising technology provider DoubleVerify.
