European Union: Voluntary Code of Practice on Disinformation integrated into Digital Services Act enters into force

Description

Voluntary Code of Practice on Disinformation integrated into Digital Services Act enters into force

On 1 July 2025, the obligations under the Voluntary Code of Practice on Disinformation integrated into the Digital Services Act (DSA) framework enter into force. The compliance with the Code is subject to annual audits, aligned with DSA enforcement measures to ensure accountability and risk mitigation. The signatories of the Code, including Google, Meta, Microsoft, and TikTok, which are classified as Very Large Online Platforms and Search Engines (VLOPs and VLOSEs) under the DSA, are required to submit the necessary documentation confirming compliance with the measures. The Code sets out commitments such as reducing financial incentives for disinformation, ensuring transparency of political advertising, and strengthening fact-checking efforts.
