On 15 August 2025, the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI) began applying a statutory fine of GHC 10'000 per day to MultiChoice Ghana (DSTV) for failure to submit pricing information requested under the Electronic Communications Act (ECA). The information request covered a detailed breakdown of subscription bouquet prices, applicable tax components, and comparative data from at least six African countries, intended to inform policy dialogue on reducing subscription fees for Ghanaian consumers. The MoCDTI had granted an extension until 11 August 2025 for submission, following which the operator remained non-compliant. The Minister stated that, under the ECA, each day of non-compliance constitutes a separate offence attracting the prescribed financial penalty. The MoCDTI further noted that if no pricing adjustment was achieved by 6 September 2025, DSTV’s operating licence could face suspension. The fine will continue to accrue daily until the full dataset is received, in accordance with enforcement powers provided under the Electronic Communications Act and relevant ministerial regulations.
