On 16 July 2025, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam closes the consultation on the draft Cyber Security Law. The draft Cyber Security Law, if enacted, would replace the 2015 Law on Cyber Information Security and the 2018 Law on Cyber Security. The law would require the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defence to deploy cybersecurity protection forces. The cyber security protection forces have several powers, including the ability to apply measures for investigation and prosecution in situations of information with content against the State of Vietnam, information with content that incites riots or information with humiliating or slanderous content. The forces are also responsible for countering a class of crimes designated as “crimes using high technology”, which include "illegally giving or using information on computer networks and communications networks" and "disseminating harmful information programs".
