Description

Ministry of Public Security closes consultation on draft Cyber Security Law including government access to data provisions

On 16 July 2025, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam closes the consultation on the draft Cyber Security Law. The draft Cyber Security Law, if enacted, would replace the 2015 Law on Cyber Information Security and the 2018 Law on Cyber Security. The draft law would require both foreign and domestic enterprises to provide user information to the Ministry of Public Security’s specialised cybersecurity force upon verified request for investigative purposes. Service providers would also be obliged to share relevant information and documents with the authorities while maintaining confidentiality. Additionally, all agencies, organisations, and individuals using cyberspace would be required to report information related to cyber security protection, threats, and infringements to the competent authorities and cybersecurity forces.
