Roskomnadzor bans use of six VPN services

On 2 September 2021, Roskomnadzor, the Russian mass media regulator, announced that it had banned the use of six VPN services that can be used to access content classed as illegal within the Russian Federation. The affected VPN services are Hola! VPN, ExpressVPN, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited, Nord VPN, Speedify VPN, and IPVanish VPN. 'White lists' have been created to register legitimate users of VPN services, whose IP addresses will not be blocked. Earlier in the year, in June 2021, Roskomnadzor had already issued restrictions for two VPN service providers.
