On 7 January 2025, the Bill amending chapter 16.1-10 of the North Dakota Century Code to include artificial intelligence (AI) disclosure statements was introduced at the North Dakota House of Representatives. The Bill defines AI as a machine-based system capable of generating digital content based on human-defined objectives or data patterns, but excluding systems that follow explicitly programmed rules. The Bill requires political entities, including candidates, political committees, political parties, and groups promoting or opposing measures or petitions, to disclose the use of AI in their communications. The Bill mandates that any political content, such as images, videos, audio, text, or other digital media created wholly or partly using AI, must display the disclaimer that the content was generated by AI.
