On 18 November 2024, the Online Safety Industry Standard 2024 for Relevant Electronic Services, registered under the Online Safety Act 2021, was adopted. On this date, the standard reached the end of its Parliamentary Disallowance period, confirming its adoption. Developed by the eSafety Commissioner, it regulates relevant electronic services and mandates that these services, including dating sites, online games and messaging services, implement measures to eliminate child sexual abuse and pro-terror material. This also includes generative AI-based "nudify apps" that create explicit content without safeguards. The standard comes into force on 22 December 2024.
