On 20 November 2024, the Decree Proposing the Amendment of Various Articles of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, including competition authority governance, was passed by the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico. The Decree would amend various articles of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, focusing on organisational simplification. Under the proposed reforms, a number of autonomous constitutional bodies, including both the Federal Economic Competition Commission (COFECE) and the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT), would be eliminated and their powers transferred to other executive bodies. Full implementation of the reforms is predicated on the adoption of further laws on competition and telecommunications, including the establishment of a new competition authority.
