Announced appeal in lawsuit pertaining to alleged monopoly in Google play's billing system

On 10 October 2024, Google LLC and associated entities announced an appeal in the lawsuit filed by Epic Games alleging that the requirement for developers to use the Google Play billing system represents monopolistic and anti-competitive behaviour. The dispute centred on in-application purchase fees and Google's control over application markets. On 7 October 2024, a permanent injunction was issued restricting Google from several anti-competitive practices for three years starting 1 November 2024. The appeal challenges various judicial decisions leading to the permanent injunction, including the jury’s verdict, denial of Google's motion for judgment as a matter of law, and the order on unfair competition law claim and injunctive relief. The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit will hear the appeal.
