United States of America: Issued ruling in a lawsuit concerning allegations that the requirement for developers to use the Google Play billing system represents monopolistic and anti-competitive behaviour (Epic Games v Google)

On 11 December 2023, the jury in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California issued a decision in a case brought before the court alleging that the requirement for developers to use the Google Play billing system represents monopolistic and anti-competitive behaviour, Epic Games v Google. The jury voted in Epic’s favour, deciding that Google engaged in monopolistic practices regarding the Android app distribution and in-app billing services. The dispute centred on in-app purchase fees and Google's control over app markets. Following the jury verdict the judge will determine the remedies to be imposed.
