Issued Supreme Court Decision Imposing Daily Fine to X for Non-Compliance

On 19 September 2024, the Supreme Federal Court (STF) of Brazil issued an order imposing a daily fine on X, formerly Twitter, for their continuous non-compliance with previous orders. Specifically, the Court suspended the platform from operating in Brazil on 30 August 2024. According to the STF, the platform had attempted to circumvent the ban by providing access through alternate servers, which the STF now ordered to be blocked. The Court determined a daily fine of BRL 5 million (ca. USD 900’000) for X’s non-compliance with the ban. The Court imposed a joint liability on Starlink, should X not pay the fines.
