On 2 August 2024, the China's Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China issued a Notice on the Work Plan for the National Key Cities IPv6 Traffic Enhancement Special Action. The Notice outlines a plan to boost IPv6 traffic in key cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and others. In particular, the initiative aims to enhance IPv6 adoption across various sectors, focusing on expanding its use in internet applications, home routers, and enterprise networks. Furthermore, it involves upgrading infrastructure such as data centres and cloud services to support IPv6 and promoting its use among government agencies, businesses, and the public. The plan will be implemented in three phases: mobilisation in August 2024, task execution from September 2024 to June 2025, and evaluation in July 2025. Finally, the notice emphasises the need for strong leadership, coordination, and publicity to ensure the initiative's success and to drive IPv6 development across the country.
