On 25 July 2024, the US Federal Communications Commission introduced rules on transparency requirements for Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated content in political advertisements. The Rules apply to entities involved in political advertising, including radio and television broadcast stations, cable operators, Direct Broadcast Satellite providers and Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service licensees. The Rules impose obligations to disclose the use of AI-generated content in political advertisements, including an on-air announcement for all political ads containing AI-generated content and a notice in the online political files of these ads, ensuring that listeners and viewers are informed about the use of such content. The Rules do not prohibit the use of AI-generated content but aim to promote transparency and help the public evaluate political ads.
