On 10 April 2024, the Bill Securing and Regulating the Digital Space, including content moderation regulation, was adopted by the National Assembly. The Bill aims to transpose obligations outlined in the European Digital Service Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA) to align national laws with these regulations. The Bill would require social media platforms to suspend the accounts of individuals convicted of cyberbullying and delete content depicting child pornography within 24 hours, Holocaust denial, terrorism promotion, or the dissemination of violent images. Furthermore, platforms will be restricted from exposing minors to targeted advertisements. Targeting based on sensitive data such as gender, ethnic origin, political or religious beliefs, sexual orientation, and others will also be prohibited. Finally, the Bill would criminalise the offence of "online insult" by punishing its dissemination when it violates a person's dignity or is insulting, degrading, humiliating, intimidating, hostile or offensive towards them.
