Russia: Issued Moscow City Court ruling upholding RUB 4.6 billion fine imposed on Google over non-compliance with content removal orders (Case no. 7-4145/2024)

On 10 April 2024, the Moscow City Court upheld the decision of the Tagansky District Court of Moscow, imposing an administrative fine on Google LLC amounting to RUB 4’611’738’636 (approximately USD 50.8 million). The Tagansky District Court imposed the fine based on Google's non-compliance with orders to delete information classified as false regarding the military operation in Ukraine, alongside content deemed prohibited in Russia. The content included videos on YouTube regarding the Russian army's losses, civilian casualties, potential use of nuclear weapons, promotion of non-traditional sexual relationships, and extremist materials.
