United States of America: Implemented Social Media Regulation Amendments Bill (SB 194) including age verification regulation

On 1 October 2024, the Social Media Regulation Amendments Bill (SB 194) entered into force. The Bill requires platforms to implement an age verification mechanism in order to address minors' unregulated social media use. The social media companies must verify the age of their users to ensure that they are not minors. Further, the platforms have to implement a review process in order for account holders to appeal the age determination if it was incorrectly determined.
