European Union: Passed Regulation on data collection and sharing for short-term accommodation rentals including registration requirement by Parliament

On 29 February 2024, the European Parliament passed the regulation on data collection and sharing for short-term accommodation rentals, including a registration requirement for hosts. The regulation would require individuals using online platforms to obtain a national registration number in order to offer renting services. The platforms will be required to make "reasonable efforts" to verify whether the individuals using their platforms, the hosts, have displayed a valid and correct registration number. Furthermore, the online platforms will be required to delist users without registration numbers upon request from the national authorities. The regulation now goes to the Council for the final vote.
