European Union: Adopted IMCO approach on Regulation on data collection and sharing on short-term rental platforms including registration requirement

On 19 September 2023, the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee of the EU Parliament adopted its position on the Regulation on data collection and sharing relating to short-term accommodation rental services, including a registration requirement for hosts. The Regulation requires individuals using online platforms in order to offer renting services to obtain a national registration number. The platforms will be required to verify whether the individuals using their platforms, the hosts, have displayed a valid and correct registration number. Furthermore, the online platforms will be required to delist users without registration numbers upon request from the national authorities. The negotiation mandate now has to be confirmed by the Parliament in the beginning of October 2023 and the negotiations with the Council will start.
