European Union: Reached Council and Parliament provisional agreement on Regulation on data collection and sharing for short-term accommodation rentals including registration requirement

On 16 November 2023, the Council of the European Union (EU) and the European Parliament reached a provisional agreement on Regulation on data collection and sharing for short-term accommodation rentals including a registration requirement for hosts. The Regulation would require individuals using online platforms in order to offer renting services to obtain a national registration number. The platforms will be required to make “reasonable efforts” to verify whether the individuals using their platforms, the hosts, have displayed a valid and correct registration number. Furthermore, the online platforms will be required to delist users without registration numbers upon request from the national authorities. The reached agreement has to be formally adopted by the Council and the European Parliament and would be implemented 24 months after it enters into force.
