Russia: Passed Bill amending Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure clarifying responsibility for crimes against the security of the Russian Federation (Bill No. 533912-8)

On 31 January 2024, the State Duma passed the Bill amending the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure, clarifying responsibility for crimes against the security of the Russian Federation (Bill No. 533912-8). The Bill includes measures for the potential confiscation of property for disseminating false information about the Russian army or government agencies' exercise of power. Additionally, public calls to conduct activities against state security could also result in property confiscation. The Bill expands the list of crimes punishable by means of the confiscation of assets obtained through such criminal acts to cover crimes under RCC Article 207.3 and RCC Article 280.4. The Bill will take effect 10 days after its official publication in the official gazette.
