CMA closes investigation and clears Facebook's acquisition of Kustomer

On 27 September 2021 the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) closed its investigation into Facebook's acquisition of Kustomer, a U.S. customer relationship management provider. The CMA cleared the acquisition since it did not find a substantial lessening of competition in any UK market. The CMA had investigated prospective effects of the merger on barriers to entry and competitiveness in the markets where Facebook and Kustomer operate as well as possible cross-subsidization implemented as a consequence of the merger. Seeing as none of these outcomes were deemed realistic, an in-depth investigation is not needed. The merger inquiry was originally opened on 30 July 2021.
