Signed MERCOSUR-Singapore Free Trade Agreement including provisions related to e-commerce and online consumer protection

On 7 December 2023, the Ministers from the MERCOSUR Member States, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay and the Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs signed the MERCOSUR - Singapore Free Trade Agreement. The e-commerce provisions prioritise accepting the validity of transactions carried out electronically and the use of electronic signatures. Additionally, it introduces measures to protect consumers from deceptive and fraudulent commercial activities. Furthermore, the parties shall make a form for export, import, and transit available for the public in electronic format. Finally, the parties agreed to strengthen cooperation on e-commerce matters, as well as on cybersecurity issues.
