Passed Bill Securing and Regulating the Digital Space including data protection regulation

On 17 October 2023, the National Assembly of France passed an amendment to the Bill Securing and Regulating the Digital Space). The Amendment aims to clarify the scope of applicability of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Law No. 78-17 to include data collected in France but handled by a non-EU data processor. The Amendment imposes the data protection obligations from the GDPR and Law No. 78-17 on all data processors of data gathered in France. The Bill will now be submitted to a joint committee of the two Houses responsible for examining and proposing a text on the provisions that remain under discussion.
