European Union: Adopted EDPB-EDPS Joint Opinion on Proposal for a Regulation on additional procedural rules for the enforcement of the GDPR

On 21 September 2023, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) adopted the "Joint Opinion 01/2023 con the Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council laying down additional procedural rules relating to the enforcement of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)". The main objective of this proposal is to facilitate the prompt conclusion of investigations and the efficient provision of remedies to individuals in cross-border cases. It achieves this by harmonising several procedures within the European Union and streamlining the cross-border cooperation procedure. Notably, the EDPB and EDPS recommend including provisions to remove existing obstacles for efficient cooperation between the national digital protection authorities and the EDPS.
