Announced creation of Fake News Eradication Task Force

On 6 September 2023, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) announced it would create a "Fake News Eradication Task Force" in order to address the problem of online fake news and create an emergency response system. The Task Force will introduce and implement legislation to address the blind spots in regulating Internet media and will take swift action against the deliberate or grossly negligent spread of malicious false information through communication networks. The Task Force will collaborate with other organisations, including the National Security Commission, to review and implement measures in the broadcasting and communications sector where fake news mitigation is lacking.
