Adopted India Digital Personal Data Protection Act including cross-border data transfer regulation

On 9 August 2023, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act was adopted by the Rajya Sabha (Parliament’s upper house). The Act allows the Central Government to restrict the transfer of personal data by a data fiduciary to foreign countries or territories outside India through a notification. The Bill will now be presented to the President for assent.
