Passed India Digital Personal Data Protection Act including cross-border data transfer regulation

On 7 August 2023, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act was passed by the Lok Sabha (Parliament’s lower house).The proposed Act allows the Central Government to restrict the transfer of personal data by a data fiduciary to foreign countries or territories outside India through a notification. The Bill will now be discussed in the Parliament’s upper house (Rajya Sabha).
