On 13 June 2023, the Act relating to the creation of the artificial intelligence advisory council (HB 2060) entered into force after being signed into law on the same day by the Governator of Texas. The Act amends the Government Code to establish the Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council, consisting of seven members, responsible for studying and overseeing artificial intelligence systems developed, used and acquired by the executive and judicial branches. The Act aims to establish additional oversight mechanisms to ensure the responsible development of AI systems. The Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council was established to examine and supervise the utilisation of AI systems by specific state agencies in Texas and is required to develop the form for the agencies to report the automated decision systems used by 1 March 2024. The established council will be abolished on 1 January 2025.
