On 24 May 2023, the Act relating to the creation of the artificial intelligence advisory council (HB 2060) was adopted by the Senate of Texas. The Act would modify the Government Code to create the Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council, consisting of seven members, responsible for studying and overseeing artificial intelligence systems developed, used and acquired by the executive and judicial branches. The Act aims to establish additional oversight mechanisms to ensure the responsible development of AI systems. Consequently, under the proposed Act, the Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council would be established to examine and supervise the utilisation of AI systems by specific state agencies in Texas. The Act goes to the Governator for signing into law.
