Description

Modified consultation on the review of the transborder data flows regime under PIPEDA

On 11 June 2019, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) reframed the consultation to update the transborder data flows regime under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). The new version of the consultation does not aim to revisit the OPC's "Guidelines for processing personal data across borders" anymore. Instead, the review asks the stakeholders to submit views on how PIPEDA should be interpreted and applied, and on how a future law could update the legal framework of data transfers. The consultation's termination has been updated to 6 August 2019.
