On 12 June 2023, the Council of the European Union adopted its general approach on the Directive on improving working conditions in platform work, including data protection for workers. In particular, under the Council approach, limitations on the use of personal data for automated monitoring or decision-making systems were introduced. The platforms will be prohibited from processing data on the emotional or psychological state of the person performing the work and data from private conversations. Furthermore, the platforms would be prohibited from collecting personal data if the person is not performing the platform work. The Council will now start the negotiations with the Parliament on the final version of the Directive.
