Description

Adopted G7 Declaration inculding endorsement of Institutional Arrangement for Partnership to operationalise Data Free Flow with Trust (DFFT)

On 20 May 2023, the Group of Seven (G7) endorsed the Institutional Arrangement for Partnership (IAP) to facilitate the operationalisation of Data Free Flow with Trust (DFFT) published by the Digital and Tech Ministers following the meeting on 30 April 2023. The DFFT is a framework that promotes the free flow of data while also ensuring data privacy, security and protection. In particular, the IAP will assess the impact of data localisation requirements and the policy justifications for their adoption, regulatory differences between jurisdictions creating barriers for data transfers, and develop a risk-based approach to prevent governments' unjustified requests to access personal data stored by private entities.
