Suspension of the implementation of WhatsApp's privacy policy update
On May 13, 2021, the Secretariat of Inner Trade of the Ministry of Productive Development decided on the suspension of the WhatsApp privacy policy update that was planned for May 15, 2021. The suspension follows the release of an opinion by the National Commission for the Defense of Competition (CNDC). The measure was published on May 17, 2021 in Argentina's Official Gazette. The suspension represents a precautionary measure which will last for 180 days, during which the CNDC will investigate the use of WhatsApp user data by Facebook for commercial purposes with potential detrimental effects on the market through increased monopolization. Specifically, a violation of Art. 1 of Law 27442 will be investigated.
